DRAINAGE & WATER RETAINING LAYER:
The drainage
layer on a flat roof is a critical part of any Green Roof system.
The ZinCo Green Roof systems are developed to recreate the natural
growing conditions of the plants. The so called 'drainage layer' performs
two important functions in this regard. It retains the necessary water
to support the plant community and also functions to carry away the
surplus water.

If the drainage layer is improperly designed and is not of sufficient
capacity the waterproofing is in continuous contact with water, which
may result in damage to the roof membrane and water back up into the
plant material. In addition, the growing medium directly above the
drain layer will also become saturated. Prolonged saturation of the
growing medium will lead to rotting of the plant root systems and
the resultant plant failure. Additionally, a permanently wet Green
Roof will also lose its thermal insulating properties.
The ZinCo Floradrain layer is designed in such a way that it not only
provides excellent drainage, but also retains rainwater in storage
troughs as a buffer for periods of drought. The plant material access
the stored water by evaporation.
ZinCo
offers a number of different drainage layers each designed for different
applications offering the Green Roof designer a system suited to every
conceivable roof application and plant community.
The
ZinCo drainage layers are manufactured from recycled materials.
