New fire protection tests on green roofs

A green flat roof classified as BROOF(t3) is resistant to sparks and radiant heat. That means that a green roof build-up would prevent the spread of fire across the roof and the transfer of fire from the roof into the interior of the building, in the case of the roof being exposed to ex-ternal fire for at least 30 minutes as per the requirements of the test standard.

Keeping a grip on the water

An enormous amount of water from driving rain can fall in a short space of time, particularly at the base of façades or other vertical surface areas. This water has to be run off without delay. The High Line Park in New York: The “longest green roof in the world”

In June 2009, New York Central Park got a serious competitor: the High Line Park. Where freight trains used to roll, New Yorkers are now not only taking walks, but also sitting in the sun and enjoying the view of the Empire State Building, the Hudson River and the Statue of Liberty – and all this while suspended above the streets. Meanwhile, the approx. 800 m long second section has now been completed.

Meydan: A Shopping Center with a green meadow on the roof

The new shopping center “Meydan”, which in Turkish means "marketplace" or "meeting point", according to the client stands for a completely new concept in shopping malls and is designed to invite to shop and linger. The unusual architecture combined with specific technology is also new to the shopping center “Meydan”. Created as natural meadows and partially accessible roof areas, smooth transitions between the different building structures and one of the largest geothermal plants in Europe with more than 200 drillings up to 150 m deep, which allows for the climate-friendly heating and cooling of the Meydan Shopping Center make it an innovative retail development which is unparalleled.

ZinCo invents the “low-maintenance” intensive green roof

This innovative green roofing system is called “summer meadow” and is in the category of simple intensive green roofs. The choices range from having a hard-wearing lawn, if the area is to be used a lot, to a meadow character providing space for herbage growth and a larger habitat for various animal species. If you want a flowering meadow, simply reduce mowing frequency and nutrient supply.

Green roofing increases earnings from photovoltaic systems

There are still unanswered questions regarding a certain increase in earnings with photovoltaic systems as a result of the cooling effect of green roofs, something that was to date not measurable. ZinCo set about providing the proof and has measured this effect with its own testing equipment over a period of three years.
