Semi-Intensive Green Roofs
The semi-intensive green roof is a more complex extensive green roof system and allows for the inclusion of various perennials and small shrubs in the plant selection. The larger capacity of the drainage and water retention layer and the thicker layer of growing medium facilitate this broader plant palette.
Perennial Garden– The Ideal System for Blooming Perennials and Fragrant Herbs.
Unlike the “rooftop garden” or the “landscaped underground garage”, where whole nursery stock product ranges can be used – subject to the habitat in question – ZinCo provides the “Perennial Garden” system. Along with low-growing sedum species, the plant community also contains fragrant herbs and small shrubs. The Semi-Intensive growing medium, which has been especially designed for this plant community, combines with the Floradrain® FD 40 water retention and drainage elements to create the necessary habitat conditions. This means that, in comparison to rooftop gardens with regular plants and higher substrate layers, the “Perennial Garden” system requires only moderate levels of care and maintenance.

Summer Meadow – The Low-Maintenance Alternative to Lawn
Depending on the amount of watering and fertilizing the system “Summer Meadow” allows different kinds of vegetation – either a durable lawn or a flowering meadow with a varity of herbs providing natural habitat for birds and insects.
The level of water consumption with “Summer Meadow” is considerably lower due to its plant types and the new irrigation method with Aquatec® AT 45. Another advantage is that it is no longer necessary to fill the drainage elements. The basic principle involves the distribution and retention of water in the element cells. The water is fed through drip lines and is drawn upwards through the wicks incorporated into the wicking mat where it is available to the growing medium.
The buildup can be used on flat roofs, sloped roofs (up to about 5° pitch)
and even on inverted roofs.
