Vision
As part of the green vision of the University of Guelph, the use of bikes was encouraged by installing a bike shelter on campus. The shelter was constructed out of galvanized steel columns, cedar beams and wood decking. Close to the Department of Landscape Architecture, a green roof was included on top of the shelter.
Design
The structure of the roof has a wave shaped design, which makes the green roof visible from the ground. This makes it a great show and study case for the students at the Department of Landscape Architecture.
Key Challenges
The biggest challenge of the roof was the slope. To protect the green roof from sliding off the building, special shear barriers where installed in combination with the ZinCo FlorasetĀ® sloped green roof assembly. This assembly is using drainage elements that are specifically designed to secure the growing medium on roofs with slopes up to 25 degrees.
